Odysseus has an excellant post on the media's treatment of the Haditha affair.
I think he's correct, no matter WHAT the final results of the investigation, the Marine Corps, and by association, all branches of the Service lose.

But I can understand how it could happen if indeed it did happen. Your teammate get blown and you know damn well that the people in the houses around were either guilty of doing it or know who did and are protecting them with their silence. Tempers are hot..not only that you are scared-hell you could be next or it could have been you. And then there is that guilt feeling that maybe it should have been me or maybe I could have done something to have kept it from happening. Then during a interrogation with the so called innocent civilians you get some lip or sass from them and decide fuck it. I don't have to put up with this shit and just pull the trigger until they ain't no more to shoot. I have said and will say again..there are no innocent civilians in a war. Using the logic that we are using now we would have lost WW two and would either be speaking Japanese or German.
I cannot justify cold blooded murder if this is what is was..but I have a hard time believing it was cold blooded premeditated murder.
