A real American hero died on December 23,2009. I know I'm late posting this but better late than never....
Col.Bob Howard (July 11, 1939 – December 23, 2009), a 36 year veteran of the U.S. Army Green Berets/SF died of cancer. Col. Howard was the first man to be nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor THREE times.
Col. Howard came up through the ranks and retired as the most decorated soldier of the modern era. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, after having been nominated for it twice before (I guess the third time really IS the charm!). He also had 8 purple hearts, 4 bronze stars and 2 silver stars and two DS crosses. He spent 5 tours of duty in Viet Nam (serving mostly in Laos and Cambodia). In one 54 month period, he was wounded 14 times. He retired from active service in 1996, but he went to both Iraq and Afghanistan to visit the troops there. He held two Masters degrees.
Our nation lost one of it's real heroes; it will be a long time before we see anyone of his stature again.
