On Patroitism

Nicki Fellinger over at The Liberty Zone has written an essay on the meaning of true Patriotism.

Here is a little taste:

Patriotism is defending all rights, no matter how difficult or distasteful. Patriotism is recognizing and loving the fundamental principles that protect those rights. That is what our men and women in the military do every day. Voltaire once wrote, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." That is the code American service members live by every day. They have sworn to protect, not the government, not politicians, but the very fundamental principles that make us America.
Patriotism is the love of those ideals that make this nation great. Honor, courage, freedom, opportunity and equality. Patriotism is not blind, unquestioning worship of those in power because their words are pretty and their platitudes are powerful. Patriotism is questioning your government... and the courage to voice those doubts. Patriotism is not blind condemnation of government, no matter what. Patriotism is the ability to reason and the courage to be reasonable. Patriotism is having the self control and the discipline not to whip out the patriotism card every time another voices a view with which you disagree.

Do yourself a favor and go read the rest.

I agree with Nicki 100% with every word she has spoken. (whiping out my own immigrant card) I understand what she meant when she said:

These are the principles and ideals that prompted me to enlist in the Army after graduating from one of the top universities in the country, instead of going to work at some high-powered corporation, making tons of money. These are the principles and ideals that allowed me to choose my future and my destiny, based on my own value system."

I too was prompted by those same principles to wear this country's uniform. It was important to me that I contribute in some small way to protecting those Principles that allowed me the freedoms I enjoy as an American. Honor demanded nothing less.

I think that all too many natural-born Americans take what this nation offers for granted; it almost seems that you have to experience how other nations operate to really appreciate the freedom we enjoy here every day. That is the only explanation I can come up for why so many of our citizens are standing silent while allowing those freedoms to be eroded a little every day...

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iphone and tested to see if it can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

Have you ever thought about publishing an ebook or guest authoring on other websites? I have a blog based on the same ideas you discuss and would really like to have you share some stories/information. I know my viewers would enjoy your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an email.

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of unique content I've either written myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any solutions to help protect against content from being ripped off? I'd definitely appreciate it.

Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You obviously know what youre talking about, why throw away your intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the structure of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?

Hi, Neat post. There is a problem with your site in internet explorer, may check this… IE still is the marketplace leader and a large part of other folks will leave out your great writing due to this problem.
