Earlier today, when I learned of the situation I left a hug for Bert.

And, yes, I'm following the situation from the beginning because I care, and think it is important.

Over the couple of years I've known him, since he began the blog, I've had the great pleasure of reading his posts, linking back and forth, and, most enjoyable of all, chatting on IM.

On IM Bert gave some indication of his health problems, and I always encouraged him to take care of himself, but I didn't have a clear picture in my head of the true extent of the problems.

This is making me realize how fortunate I've been.

I've been a life long bicyclist, and so even though I loved my fast food, and don't eat as healthy as I should, Being a bachelor means I'm no chef, if ya know what I mean, I've been very healthy.

Over a year ago I weighed a consistent 175-180.

I should be around 160, but since, because of lack of chances to ride my favored long jaunts, as opposed to commuting, and stress over eye surgery, I've let my weight balloon to 199lbs!

I read Mamma's post, and I realize that if I am not careful I could find myself in medical dificulty like Bert.

I need to do more than eat cereal, or fruit smoothies for breakfast, and learn to shop more sensibly, and cook more than the few healthy meals I know how.

Bert would probably say I need to get a good woman who loves me, and can cook, hee, hee.

One step I've taken, today, is to tape the following note to the inside of my wallet:

Eat Subway!

A reminder for when I'm away from home and get hungry that as much as I love Tommy's, Carl's and Jack, they are not the best fast food options out there.
